Harley Davidson bills itself as the made in American Motorcycle Company. While most of the bikes and parts are made in the US it is also true that almost all of their clothing items come from China or some other country. You could argue that Harley sells more clothing than they do motorcycles. Anybody can buy a T-Shirt but not everyone can afford a Harley Motorcycle.
What would happen if Harley started making all of their clothing here. The textile industry has taken as serious a hit as the steel and automotive industry has. Most people who ride Harleys are very proud of the fact that they purchased American made motorcycles and I happen to be one. I love the way a Harley sounds and the way it rides. Our Harleys allow us to express ourselves in a somewhat arguably artistic manner. The bike that you ride off the show room floor very seldom looks the same two years down the road. Adding Chrome or pipes or custom seats and paint make it uniquely yours. We all have bikes that have something that makes it different than any other bike on the road. The Harleys are a prime example of the workmanship that American workers are capable. I love my Harley.
President Trump commits to work with the US company that are keeping jobs n the US. I hope they talked about the fact that Harley still sends a lot of money over seas to countries like China. Not to mention the fact that a lot of the parts are being made in other countries like Mexico. So even Harley has a ways to go to truly be all American Made. I for one will stop buying T-Shirts from Harley Davidson. Mainly because I no longer have any room for any more of them. So that will be easy for me to do. But really it would be interesting to know how much of the Harley Davidson business is in clothing. There are several Harley shops that don't actually sell Motorcycles just clothing. One is in downtown San Francisco. There is also one in the Bahamas that only sells clothing. O'Hare airport has a Harley shop that only sells clothing. But there is not a single Harley Shop that sells motorcycles that doesn't also sell clothing. I find it interest even if others may not.
Please don't think that I am an isolationist, I believe we have to be a part of the global economy or we'll go bankrupt. It just seems to me that if a company is claiming to be made in America then it should be made in America.
